Summer Clams

this is what summer is all about... walking out in the Bay thru the muck and mess with you trusted clam rake... for an hour or so for you to rake the bottom of the bay to feel the stony thud of a clam... deep down in the sand... Large and small all as tasty as the next... The big monster clams are used for clam chowder and the ones about the size of a beer can r the best just steamed in a bottle of wine with cut up basil and ham garlic and green peepers... And u must remember the crusty bread to dip in the broth.... Ahhhh summer time of living easy and where time runs slower in Delaware...

Meet twiggy

From Downloads

This is my Dwarf Mayer lemon tree... As you can see from the pictures why I call her twiggy... She started out last year great... She came in the mail (yes from QVC) and she was just a little twig... Poor little thing but boy did she take off... She sprouted lots of leafs... and then came the pretty white flowers.... WOW did they ever smell wonderful kind of like a tropical beach scent... Then came the Christmas 08 massacre... It starts with one leaf then 2 than 3 the 5 then ALL of them fell off twiggy... Maybe she was mad because I didn't get here a Christmas present??? I thought she was Jewish??? Oh well what to so she sat in my dining room all winter long... Then I put her out side close to the trash can because that was going to be her next stop if nothing happened...

Twiggy and her new Sister

As you can see twiggy has come back to life... Guess I don’t have a toxic thumb as I thought... I emailed cottage farms (who QVC told me to call) with pictures of twiggy and told them I think she is dieing but I do see some leaves near the lower part of her branches and should trim back the bare twigs down to where the new leafs are???? The were kind enough to send me instructions on what to do and the also sent me a new lemon tree / twig with a green lemon attached???? Twiggy is doing fine and getting along with her sister and coming along... We will see what the summer brings... Every evening I go out to talk to them, and tell them the story of the little lemon tree the came before them and all the bushels of lemons that she produced and on that cold winter morning that Santa came to say Lemon with your lemon so tart won't you guide my sleigh tonight.... WHAT wait where m I going with this??? Sorry I drifted off... I tell them if they don’t straighten up it in the trash can their going....

P.S. they are both close to the trash can...

whale watching

I know I know there are no whales in the indian river bay... but let the little guy have some fun...
on May 20 2009 a 50,000 pound Sei Whale washed up on the beach the ocean side of Dewey Beach here is a picture and news article from the local paper...

DEWEY BEACH — A 50,000 pound sei whale, one of the the largest marine animals to ever become beached in the area, has washed ashore in Dewey Beach, officials said.
According to Suzanne Thurman, executive director of the Marine Education Research & Rehabilitation Institute, Inc., the whale was reported by a beach goer on Conquest Road this afternoon. The 37-foot juvenile male has been dead for days, she said, noting that she and her volunteers are now on site collecting samples to determine the cause of death. Tractors are on site to move the animal, which is still rolling in the surf.According to Thurman, the species is considered a large whale and is a member of the Baleen family. "This is the first (whale of this size) that has been stranded," she said. " We'll be here for hours."According to Thurman, Sei whales typically reach 57 feet and about 70,000 pounds.

thank God I wasn't boggy boarding (could u see me on a boggy board) I would have been the one the they were writing the article on... when that happened....

it is the funnest thing to watch... he gets this happy concerned look on his face as he rolls all over the dead thing he finds in the road or on the beach... you can see the happy euphoric look come over his Happy happy little face... saying I'm a dirty little dog happy happy happy dirty dirty dirty little dog...

little does he know its in bath tub when we get back and the smile becomes a OMG I'm in the bath tub..... help meeeeeeee please....... such a goof ball just like his father....(Me)

Horseshoe crabs are among the world's oldest and most fascinating creatures. They are estimated to be at least 300 million years old. The earliest horseshoe crab species were crawling around the Earth's shallow coastal seas for at least 100 million years before the dinosaurs even arrived (which was about 200 million years ago). Since that time, the Earth's land masses have shifted dramatically, thousands of other species have come and gone, but horseshoe crabs have survived and today remain much as they were those millions of years ago. Horseshoe crabs have been used by people for centuries. More recently, they have been instrumental to scientific research that has contributed significantly to human health. Still today, when people see for the first time this strange creature with an armored shell and spiked tail, it is often with trepidation, along with the question, "What is that thing?" Meet the remarkable horseshoe crab!

1st summer Vacation a week at the beach...

Ahhh a weeks vacation is always nice... But even better when you spend it with family and friends... The weather was a little unpredictable but still nice...

I m sure you have all seen the bumper sticker "a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work" I must say this is true...

I got to get caught up on my DVD collection... "Doubt" was outstanding and if any of you went to parochial school like I did you will like it even more...

And on the lighter side there was the family guy season six...

And for anyone paying for SHOWTIME stop... I have direct TV and they are giving me SHOWTIME free for the next 3 month for being a long time customer... but All the movies on Showtime are all the old ones that they show on regular TV... I don’t get??? I will stick with Netflix...

Saturday 05/30 the beach was outstanding not a cloud in the sky and a nice breeze blowing off the bay... My little Buddie and I spent the day at the beach... As you can see my little buddies is a real beach bum.... And yes we both use SPF 30 most of the time???

I Love John & Kate plus Eight

NOW LEAVE THEM ALONE...

I wish "the Press" would stop all the alleged rumors and he said she said would stop... and let John and Kate take care of there lovely children... it's sick and wrong what so called the press is doing to them... say what u will but John and Kate are the only two who know exactly what is going on... and you "the press" can go on and on saying this and that but the only ones that can answer that is John and Kate... "LEAVE THEM ALONE" its none of our/your business... "keep your own back yard clean before you try to dirty john and Kate's with allegations and no proof"...
"keep them in your prayers"

you may not agree with me and that's fine... just remember they are 8 tiny innocent little children giving us the opportunity to peek into there lives...

Harrisburg, Primary Election is over...

I don't know about you but I sure m glad the primary election for Harrisburg is over... and may the best man or woman win...
It was a heated election here in the city of Harrisburg, PA for the seat of mayor... Mayor reed has bee the mayor from 1982... "I myself think we need a change..." he was going up against Linda Thompson... she is the president of city council and a tough critic of Mayor Reed...
we will see this fall when all the votes are counted...

yes Mayor Reed has done much for the city of but in the last few years the city has fallen deeper into debt... I feel from poor decisions and the like... this is not a political blog so I will continue...

I will close with, let the best MAN or WOMAN win... and do the right thing...

Happy Clams 2 U

Mercenaria mercenaria (Hard Clam)
Also called the quahog, Cherrystones, littlenecks, steamers or HEAVEN in a shell... the best calms are the size of the top of a beer/soda/pop can with a thick shell that is grayish white on the outside and white on the inside with a purple patch near the rear. The hard clam lives in sandy-bottomed bays and murky coves, and along beaches from Canada to Texas Recreational fishermen gather the clams with rakes and hoes (that's funny), or simply by probing the bottom with their feet or hands. At low tide, experienced gatherers can spot siphon holes on the bottom where Clams are actively feeding. This species supports a substantial recreational and commercial fishery. There is a minimum legal size that varies from state to state. The smallest clams are called "little necks", next are the "cherrystones", and the largest is called a "chowder".
When Buying:
The price of the clam is determined by its size -- the smaller the clam, the more expensive it will be in relation to the large chowder clam, which will be the least expensive.
CULINARY delight:
clams have a sweet, light flavor, but this is more evident in the smaller, more tender little necks. Steamed until they pop completely open, if they don't pop open don't force them they ARE DEAD AND and should not be eaten... little necks have almost a buttery flavor. Larger clams don't seem as sweet because they are chewier. The chowder clams need to be chopped and cooked to help tenderize them; hence, as the name implies, they are best for clam chowder. The little necks are best for clams on the half-shell (raw) because they are the tenderest. But, of course, they also may be steamed with garlic and olive oil or a little/lot of wine for a delicious dish. Steamed little necks complement mussels very nicely; the two can be steamed together. Don't forget; you can use your microwave to steam oysters, clams, and mussels. No water is necessary. Place them in a shallow dish with the hinge toward the outside cover, vent, and microwave on HIGH for 6-8 minutes.Cherrystones may also be used for clams on the half-shell, but they are typically used for baked clam appetizers such as clams casino. Chowder size are best if they are cut up or chopped and cooked. Smaller chowder clams may be cut into strips and breaded. Also, chopped clams are excellent for making a white sauce to top your favorite pasta.

and best of all, the great taste of a Clam dipped in a bowl of melted butter...

yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
the weekend was full of clams...

I love Me Some Marshmello Peep's

cant you just eat and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat... and eat...
I myself think they only taste good during the Easter season... and they must be fresh and soft...
"S'mores"
wonder how they would be if you swap out the marshmallow and replaced it with a Peep???
I love the traditional S'mores but i like to spice it up with the addition of a little peanut butter... yum yum...

A very busy week from palm Sunday to Easter... I participate in the Easter Triduum or holy week... beginning with the Chrism Mass on Monday and all the masses thru Easter... starting with the annual Chrism Mass, celebrated at St. Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg on Monday of Holy Week, During the Chrism Mass, the bishop blesses the oils and Chrism that will be used in the celebration of the sacraments throughout the coming year. The Oil of Catechumens is used to anoint those preparing for baptism; the Oil of the Sick is used in the anointing of the sick; and the Sacred Chrism is used in the baptism of children, the Sacrament of Confirmation, the ordination of priests and bishops, and the dedication of altars. the next mass was on Thursday night it is the mass of our lord's supper...then on to good Friday and the grand silence where you don't speak from 1200 to 300 (it's not to hard to do because your in church for most of that time)... a very sad and somber day... then holy Saturday and the Great Vigil of Easter... what a wonderful wonderful weekend...

: here is some great information all about holy week just click this link :

Monday Night Pasta

Monday Night Supper
lets start with dinner... I tried a new home made pasta... love making my own pasta... very simple and easy to do... you may think it's a lot of work but it's a lot of fun and easy... for the money it's well Worth it and the raw pasta freezes well...
Ingredient's:
4 cups of flour and a 1/2 cup for the board (for dusting)
2 cups of Puree pumpkin or squash you can get in the frozen section by the spinage
1 table spoon sea salt
2 eggs
1 to 3 garlic cloves crushed in a garlic press
12 pepper corn's crushed
1 table spoon olive oil

You can do this by hand, but if you have a kitchen aid you are home free and you can do the dishes while the pasta is mixing ...I own the Kitchen Aid Professional 5qt 450 Watt 10 Speed Stand Mixer...say hello to Sister Bertheina

OK here comes the hard part.. throw all ingredients in the mixing bowl with the paddle attachment and speed on 2 to 3 mix for about 5 minutes... then switch to the dough hook... and mix for another 2 to 3 minutes... it should be the consistency of play dough...
you can use a pasta machine or roll it out to the desired thickness... cook about 2 to 3 minutes and add your favorite gravy / sauce there you have it home made pasta in a flash...

yummy yummy I think the pumpkin or squash made it more silky very delicate not like a heavy thick pasta...
next time I make pasta I will remember to document all the steps and share with all of my friends...

OK turn the TV off..... and don't forget to give thanks
