Meet twiggy
From Downloads |
This is my Dwarf Mayer lemon tree... As you can see from the pictures why I call her twiggy... She started out last year great... She came in the mail (yes from QVC) and she was just a little twig... Poor little thing but boy did she take off... She sprouted lots of leafs... and then came the pretty white flowers.... WOW did they ever smell wonderful kind of like a tropical beach scent... Then came the Christmas 08 massacre... It starts with one leaf then 2 than 3 the 5 then ALL of them fell off twiggy... Maybe she was mad because I didn't get here a Christmas present??? I thought she was Jewish??? Oh well what to so she sat in my dining room all winter long... Then I put her out side close to the trash can because that was going to be her next stop if nothing happened...

But I m sorry for all the people who had to sit in traffic... I myself stayed at camp... only to make one trip to the Giant Super store for provisions steak and more steak... Sorry all my vegetarian friends... I am trying to consume less red meat... It's tough... And I am also trying to drop some weight also... Here is a picture of my $34.00 QVC blueberries... there are only 3 not blueberry (that's $11.00 a berry I must b a crack head) Don't know what I am doing wrong the plant looks great nice and green... Healthy looking and all that... But I only see 3 berries on my to berry bush... whats up with that... I guess I will buy my blue berries from the market... Another QVC purchase I guess I will never buy plants and the like from QVC... It's not that I m knocking QVC I do love them and will continue 2 buy from them... Just not plants... Oh well live and learn...
Spinach
I tried my luck at spinach it did not do to well... (NOT sure how or what to do with it) I m use to buying my spinach in plastic bags and none of mine looked like what was coming up in my pots... Guess I should do some research on how to grow it and what to expect... I picked some leaves and they had little black seed like thing on the bottom of the leaves... Gross... They got pitched... And what is with the flower looking things???? HELPPPPPPPP......
Twiggy and her new Sister
As you can see twiggy has come back to life... Guess I don’t have a toxic thumb as I thought... I emailed cottage farms (who QVC told me to call) with pictures of twiggy and told them I think she is dieing but I do see some leaves near the lower part of her branches and should trim back the bare twigs down to where the new leafs are???? The were kind enough to send me instructions on what to do and the also sent me a new lemon tree / twig with a green lemon attached???? Twiggy is doing fine and getting along with her sister and coming along... We will see what the summer brings... Every evening I go out to talk to them, and tell them the story of the little lemon tree the came before them and all the bushels of lemons that she produced and on that cold winter morning that Santa came to say Lemon with your lemon so tart won't you guide my sleigh tonight.... WHAT wait where m I going with this??? Sorry I drifted off... I tell them if they don’t straighten up it in the trash can their going....
P.S. they are both close to the trash can...
My city garden
Tonight I had my first salad from my own garden... It was way cool 2 go and pick my own salad... Way cool for a city boy like me...
I guess I m going to try some tomatoes...
I tried them last year but they did not do that well... Bought them from QVC they were heirloom tomatoes (what do I know) out of 12 plants yes i said 12 plants I only got 1 tomato????
they were the only thing I got from QVC that I will never buy again... oh wait there were the blueberry's and lemon tree/twig...
also there were the strawberry's i wont even take pictures of the dried out dead plants in the cute little strawberry pot... did not have the heart to throw them out... but after this they r in the dumpster...
whale watching
According to Suzanne Thurman, executive director of the Marine Education Research & Rehabilitation Institute, Inc., the whale was reported by a beach goer on Conquest Road this afternoon. The 37-foot juvenile male has been dead for days, she said, noting that she and her volunteers are now on site collecting samples to determine the cause of death. Tractors are on site to move the animal, which is still rolling in the surf.According to Thurman, the species is considered a large whale and is a member of the Baleen family. "This is the first (whale of this size) that has been stranded," she said. " We'll be here for hours."According to Thurman, Sei whales typically reach 57 feet and about 70,000 pounds.
Happy Horseshoe (Limulus polyphemus)
its the season for these funny looking animals to appear on the beach... looks like some kind of monster to me...
1st summer Vacation a week at the beach...
Ahhh a weeks vacation is always nice... But even better when you spend it with family and friends... The weather was a little unpredictable but still nice...
I m sure you have all seen the bumper sticker "a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work" I must say this is true...
I got to get caught up on my DVD collection... "Doubt" was outstanding and if any of you went to parochial school like I did you will like it even more...
And on the lighter side there was the family guy season six...
And for anyone paying for SHOWTIME stop... I have direct TV and they are giving me SHOWTIME free for the next 3 month for being a long time customer... but All the movies on Showtime are all the old ones that they show on regular TV... I don’t get??? I will stick with Netflix...
Saturday 05/30 the beach was outstanding not a cloud in the sky and a nice breeze blowing off the bay... My little Buddie and I spent the day at the beach... As you can see my little buddies is a real beach bum.... And yes we both use SPF 30 most of the time???

Happy Clams 2 U
Also called the quahog, Cherrystones, littlenecks, steamers or HEAVEN in a shell... the best calms are the size of the top of a beer/soda/pop can with a thick shell that is grayish white on the outside and white on the inside with a purple patch near the rear. The hard clam lives in sandy-bottomed bays and murky coves, and along beaches from Canada to Texas Recreational fishermen gather the clams with rakes and hoes (that's funny), or simply by probing the bottom with their feet or hands. At low tide, experienced gatherers can spot siphon holes on the bottom where Clams are actively feeding. This species supports a substantial recreational and commercial fishery. There is a minimum legal size that varies from state to state. The smallest clams are called "little necks", next are the "cherrystones", and the largest is called a "chowder".
When Buying:
The price of the clam is determined by its size -- the smaller the clam, the more expensive it will be in relation to the large chowder clam, which will be the least expensive.
CULINARY delight:
clams have a sweet, light flavor, but this is more evident in the smaller, more tender little necks. Steamed until they pop completely open, if they don't pop open don't force them they ARE DEAD AND and should not be eaten... little necks have almost a buttery flavor. Larger clams don't seem as sweet because they are chewier. The chowder clams need to be chopped and cooked to help tenderize them; hence, as the name implies, they are best for clam chowder. The little necks are best for clams on the half-shell (raw) because they are the tenderest. But, of course, they also may be steamed with garlic and olive oil or a little/lot of wine for a delicious dish. Steamed little necks complement mussels very nicely; the two can be steamed together. Don't forget; you can use your microwave to steam oysters, clams, and mussels. No water is necessary. Place them in a shallow dish with the hinge toward the outside cover, vent, and microwave on HIGH for 6-8 minutes.Cherrystones may also be used for clams on the half-shell, but they are typically used for baked clam appetizers such as clams casino. Chowder size are best if they are cut up or chopped and cooked. Smaller chowder clams may be cut into strips and breaded. Also, chopped clams are excellent for making a white sauce to top your favorite pasta.
and best of all, the great taste of a Clam dipped in a bowl of melted butter...
yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Monday Night Pasta
You can do this by hand, but if you have a kitchen aid you are home free and you can do the dishes while the pasta is mixing ...I own the Kitchen Aid Professional 5qt 450 Watt 10 Speed Stand Mixer...say hello to Sister Bertheina
OK here comes the hard part.. throw all ingredients in the mixing bowl with the paddle attachment and speed on 2 to 3 mix for about 5 minutes... then switch to the dough hook... and mix for another 2 to 3 minutes... it should be the consistency of play dough...
yummy yummy I think the pumpkin or squash made it more silky very delicate not like a heavy thick pasta...
OK turn the TV off..... and don't forget to give thanks
